I am feeling a little less stressed on the old Christmas front now that I have actually been to the jolly old shops and bought some jolly old presents. The girlie and I got ourselves up and dressed (no easy task on a damp squib of a Saturday) and plodded off to the train station. Obviously this is yesterday I am talking about. We headed off towards Tunbridge Wells and ended up in Hastings. I was able to introduce my daughter to the pleasures of cheap train travel. I bought two 10p permits to travel and we got to Hastings for 10p each. Oh don’t worry I bought normal tickets for the return journey so I didn’t actually gain anything ultimately but you still get a buzz from sidling past the guard with only a 10p ticket. I have had enough freebie journeys anyway. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t a deliberate avoidance on my part. I get on at a station that has no ticket office or machine and rely on purchasing one on the train. I can’t help it if the guards don’t want to sell me one! It doesn’t help of course that I look demure and honest so I couldn’t possibly be travelling without a ticket. *Opens eyes very wide* see!
We had to start off the day with a cup of something first – naturally. We had to make our departure pretty sharpish from the café though because the girlie spotted Santa heading into the café looking for small children to subject to his jollity. She has always had a peculiar distrust of the store Santa’s, even when she was a littlie. And she also has the same nervous attitude to those irritating clowns that go about in public spaces terrifying small children with their large feet and extravagant make-up.
Anyway we managed to get quite a few people ticked off our list so that has made me feel a little more ready for the whole event. I have 3 Christmas events to go to this week, 2 meals and a pub crawl so I shan’t have a lot of time for television. Can’t actually even remember when I last sat down and watched something I wanted to watch! I’ll pencil something in for January possibly.
